Bogotá, Distrito Capital, abbreviated Bogotá, D.C (during the time of Spanish rule, and also from 1991 to 2000, called Santafé de Bogotá) is the capital and largest city of Colombia administered as the Capital District, although often thought of as part of Cundinamarca.Bogotá is a territorial entity of the first order, with the same administrative status as the departments of Colombia. It is the political, economic, administrative, industrial, artistic, cultural, and sports center of the country.

ITINERARY

  • Day 1 | Arrival in Bogotá: Reception at the El Dorado International Airport in Bogota. Transfer to hotel. Dinner. Rest.
  • Day 2 | Bogotá Tour: Breakfast. In the morning, we will start the city tour, by visiting the Cerro de Monserrate, located at 3152 meters above sea level, the Shrine of the Fallen Lord of Monserrate sheltering on its summit. It is a pilgrimage site surrounded by lush vegetation and where the best scenery of the savannah of Bogota is seen. We will visit the Quinta Bolívar Museum, a colonial style house in the town of Candelaria. Apart from its architectural interest, it is relevant from a historical point of view for having served as a residence in Bogota of Simon Bolivar, the liberator of five nations.

    There we will observe the Manuelita Saenz rooms, ballroom, dining room, game room and the bedroom of the Liberator. We will visit El Museo del Oro(The Gold Museum), a place that brings together nearly 34,000 pieces of gold and 20,000 of stone, ceramics, textile objects and precious stones belonging to indigenous cultures of the Quimbaya, Calima, Tayrona, Sinu, Muisca, Tolima, Tumaco and Malagana tribes.

    We can admire pieces in gold such as breastplates, masks, poporis, pendants, bracelets, necklaces, containers and thousands of figures of remarkable quality. Then we will see El Barrio la Candelaria (the Candelaria neighbourhood), the most recognized spot of the city because it is part around the historic center of Bogota, where the National Capital (El Capitolio Nacional), the Palace of Justice, the Cathedral of Bogota, and the Archbishop's Palace are found. We will end the tour in the Plaza Bolivar, the main square of the city of Bogota and Colombia, which is considered a major urban and architectural achievement of neoclassical beauty. After lunch we will visit the Museum of July 20 or vase house, and the museum of Independence. Dinner Show in typical Colombian restaurant. Rest.
  • Day 3 | Bogota - Zipaquira - Sabana de Bogota and Guatavita: Breakfast. We will drive on a beautiful highway which leads to the city of Zipaquira, where he will visit the Salt Cathedral of Zipaquira, an enclosure built inside a salt mine, and which is considered one of the most remarkable architectural and artistic achievements of Colombian architecture, even having been granted the title of architectural jewel of modernity. The importance of the Cathedral lies in its value as a cultural, religious and environmental heritage. A tour will be done of important places like the Plaza (where there’s a cross 4.20 meters high, called the Holy Axis), the Domo Salino, La Mina, El Museo de La Brine, built in a tank no longer in use.

    It’s one of the most important places in the Salt Park. Here we will get to a pedagogical idea of the process of exploitation of salt. After lunch, we will travel to La Laguna de Guatavita, named for a circular lagoon (lake), whose meaning in the muisca language means: " End of the Tilling " or " Range Point ", where currently the belief says that the lagoon is full of gold due to the offerings of the muiscas which motivated many settlers, starting with the Spaniards, to try to empty the pond water through a cross section of the crater that contains it.

    We will visit the town of cultural and handicraft center in the Guatavita region. At sunset, we will return to Bogota. At night, dinner and rest.
  • Day 4 | Travel Bogota - Cartagena: Breakfast. Reception at the Rafael Nunez International Airport in the city of Cartagena in the Colombian Caribbean. Hotel Registration and Lunch Caribbean. In the afternoon we will take traditional transportation for a city tour to learn of the history of colonial and modern Cartagena. We will begin our tour at the Convent of the Popa, which offers a privileged view of the entire city. When descending, we will visit the most emblematic sites of Cartagena, such as: Barajas Saint Philippe’s Castle (El Castillo de San Felipe de Barajas), built by the Spaniards as an impregnable fortress, synonymous with power and supremacy. It’s considered one of the seven wonders of Colombia.

    Then we will visit the Gold Museum, the Walled City, declared both as national heritage of Colombia, as well as a World heritage Site, where the nobles and important people lived in colonial times. Then we will go to the Artisanal Vaults, La Plaza of Santo Domingo, the Plaza de San Pedro, La Torre Clock and the Catalina India sculpture, who is an indigenous character in the history of Colombia belonging to the Calamarí ethnic group,. She is known for being the lover of Don Pedro de Heredia and mastering the India Language, and as a peacemaker and translator among indigenous tribes, among other things. Then we will go around the Bay of Cartagena in the Boca Grande, Laguito, Big Castle and Manga neighborhoods. We will observe the most important republican houses. At night we will have a Dinner Show in a typical Colombian restaurant. Rest.
  • Day 5 | Volcano Totumo Cartagenera | Gastronomy: Breakfast. In the morning we will visit the Gastronomy Cartagenera, where we learn to do and enjoy the delicious taste of the food which is made in the Caribbean region of Colombia. The kitchen of Cartagena de Indias is the result of a combination of indigenous, African and Spanish culture. Many of the dishes are based on the process of frying food; as we shall see and learn in this gastronomic activity. It will be a fun experience where we will be protagonists and tasters of our own specialties. After lunch. in the afternoon we will make a tour to the Totumo volcano, considered an exotic and natural wonder, 20 meters high, full of warm and dense mud, where it is impossible not to sink into it. We will enter through a rustic wooden staircase and reach the highest point. We will enjoy the healing properties of the mud and a massage. At the end of the day, we will return very relaxed back to the hotel. Dinner. Rest.
  • Day 6 | Cartagena | Isla del Rosario: After breakfast, we will travel to the pier to take a boat to the Paradise Islands of Rosario, where we can enjoy the sun, sea breeze, with a natural beauty of crystal clear water and sand. It was a declared Natural National Park, by having coral reefs, sea grass and mangroves as well as numerous species of algae and animals that live there. On one of the islands we will have a traditional lunch of the region. Then we will travel to our final destination of the day where we will register. Dinner. Rest.
  • Day 7 | Rosario Islands: Free day for beach and sun. Breakfast - lunch and dinner included.
  • Day 8 | Cartagena | Santa Marta | Rodadero: After breakfast, we will board a comfortable air-conditioned bus to travel to the city of Santa Marta, considered the most beautiful bay of Cartagena América. FromCartagena we will go by road to the sea, passing through the city of Barranquilla to the surrounding Santa Marta. Traditional dinner at night. Rest.
  • Day 9 | Jourkey to park Tayrona: We will go to Tayrona National Park, one of the most beautiful and important parks of Colombia thanks to its biodiversity in marine species of flora and fauna and arriving at Tayrona National Park, which is a privileged place for having more than 350 species of algae and 770 species different plants. Among this is the orchid, the national flower of Colombia. After, we will hike on the trails that will allow us to appreciate the natural beauty. Then we will get to the Arrecifes sector. We will enjoy the beach and have a tour of the park, enjoying the landscape from the viewpoint of Cañavera.
  • Day 10 | Tour and Santa Marta Taganga Breakfast. We will leave on horseback towards the Paramo de Las Papas, a spectacular journey through forests and rocky ravines along the path of the Magdalena River, reaching the Mirador de la Laguna de Magdalena, where we will observe the birth of the Magdalena River. We will hike to another viewpoint over the Laguna de Santiago (Santiago Lake) before descending to the village of Laoyola where where we will lodge on a farm with a local family. Dinner. Rest.
  • Day 11 | Free day at the beach and shopping rodadero.
  • Day 12 | Breakfast: Travel to Santa Marta airport to take the flight to Bogotá.
